Frequently asked questions

The Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) mandates Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) training for staff in specific licensed care settings, including Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs), Nursing Homes, and Adult Day Care Centers. This training helps ensure staff have foundational knowledge to care for individuals living with dementia in a respectful, competent, and safe manner.

Meeting this requirement is not optional, it is part of each facility’s licensing and compliance obligations under Florida law (430.5025 F.S. and Rule 59A-36.011 F.A.C.).

All staff (except those working in Hospice settings) must complete both:

  • A 1-hour general ADRD training provided directly by the state via the Florida DOEA website; and,
  • A setting-specific curriculum approved by the DOEA, such as those offered through Showd.me.

Both components are required to fulfill the full scope of ADRD training requirements.
