The Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) mandates Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) training for staff in specific licensed care settings, including Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs), Nursing Homes, and Adult Day Care Centers. This training helps ensure staff have foundational knowledge to care for individuals living with dementia in a respectful, competent, and safe manner.
Meeting this requirement is not optional, it is part of each facility’s licensing and compliance obligations under Florida law (430.5025 F.S. and Rule 59A-36.011 F.A.C.).

Florida law outlines specific timeframes for when ADRD training must be completed based on the type of facility and the role of the staff member.
The 1-hour state-provided ADRD training must be completed within 30 days of hire for all employees (and volunteers/contractors undergoing Level 2 background screening) who provide personal care or have regular contact with individuals with dementia. Note: This is a mandatory requirement for all settings except Hospice and must be completed via the Florida Department of Elder Affairs website.
