How 3 Home Care Agency Leaders are Training their Home Health Aides
Training is an important part of any industry, and it is especially important in health care where patient care is a top priority. It leads to enhanced employee performance, higher productivity, and an improved company culture. Here at showd.me, we know the importance of proper training and we are always looking to see how home care agencies are successfully training their employees. We interviewed 3 home care agency leaders, in an effort to better understand their training best practices. We detailed their answers below.
We interviewed Terrell Canon, Training Coordinator at Home Care Associates. Currently, their training is conducted mainly in-person and focuses on mandated topics for Direct Care Workers (ex. Hipaa, confidentiality, documenting and reporting), soft skills such as communication problem solving and hands-on demonstration for working with mechanical devices (es. Hoyer lifts), walkers and canes, meal preparation practice, and more. For aides who have English as their second language, they provide translation that will help adapt the training for them.
Next, we interviewed Golanda Govan who is the Director of Client Success at Nursing Personnel. They have been around since 1989, and they provide home health aide services, personal care aides, and CDPAP services to people in need who meet the eligibility requirements. They outsource their training, and they refer their home health aides to other training schools. They use showd.me to conduct their training and they have a 100% completion rate amongst their employees.
Lastly, we interviewed Gaddy Lightstone who is the Chief Revenue Officer at Amazing Home Care. They report that they have a hybrid model for training. Their training covers a variety of topics, like infection control, compliance training, sexual harassment, and more. Overall, they focus on maintaining compliance. They use online training services to help with the virtual portion, so that their caregivers can complete their training on-demand and on their own time, and that seems to be working well for their team.
Home Care Training Takeaways:
Whether training is done in-person, online, or a hybrid of both, it is a very important aspect of the caregiver role. As you can see, top agency leaders know the importance of proper training and how it can make the best caregivers even more successful. At showd.me, we offer on-demand, online training that can be completed at the convenience of your caregivers from their mobile device.
